Twenty three hybrids (F₁´s) crossed in Seoul Seed Company Experiment Farm and 55 lines of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) including the parental lines were evaluated for resistance to Phytophthora foliar blight (Phytophthora capsici Leonian) by inoculation with zoosporangial suspension at the seedling stage.
MS 301-66, MS 201-27, and MS 209-8 were found to be resistant among 11 maternal lines tested. `Hanuelgochu´, `Palbang´, `Youngyang Hanuel´, and `Milyang´ were resistant among 13 paternal lines tested. Crosses of MS 201-27 × `Riogrande´, MS 301-66 × `Hojung´, MS 201-2-15 × `Hanuelgochu´, and MS 201-27 × `Palbang´ were resistant among 23 F₁´s, indicating that both parents should be resistant to produce resistant F₁´s. Of the other 31 lines tested, PI 201234, PI 271460, PI 182646, PI 183922, PI 271426, and PI 123469 were resistant and can be used as promising raw material for breeding for resistance to Phytophthora blight.
